Maewood uses only the finest of hardwoods. Our craftsmen hand-select each piece of wood to insure the highest quality of wood tone, smoothness, and integrity. Some of the more popular wood choices are listed below.

Alder is characterized by its straight grain and even texture. Its reddish brown color often looks similar to Cherry. Alder naturally has both hard and soft wood characteristics. Due to this attribute, stain can be absorbed unevenly with some areas appearing darker while others appear lighter.

Cherry is an elegant and rich hardwood, which can contain small knots and pin holes. It is known for its beauty, as well as for its strength and durability. The rich highlights give the wood a distinctive appearance when stained. Cherry tends to darken over time – a natural occurrence that enhances its beauty and charm.

Hickory has a heavy grain pattern that can vary from light to dark. Hickory is a hard, strong, and durable wood that has a wide spectrum of color ranging from white to a deep brown. These naturally occurring characteristics add to the wood’s beauty.

Maple is a finely textured wood, which color can vary from creamy-white to light reddish-brown. This wood species features a straight grain and can also display bird’s-eye, fiddle back, mineral streaks and curly grain patterns. Maple is an excellent choice when stained or painted and then glazed.

Oak wood is known for its prominent grain which creates its lasting beauty. This species of wood can have knots, dark mineral streaks, and very small pin knots. The color can range from white to a salmon pink.
